Why become a foster parent?
Choosing to make a positive impact in a child’s life is the most common reason that individuals and families from all walks of life get involved.
Sharing a Family
Bringing a youth into your home can often bring richness to the family while extending the existing family structure. Parents tell us that their own children value the impact of helping at-risk youth.
Mentoring
Sharing your life experiences and watching children learn and grow can be very fulfilling. Teachers, coaches, counselors, and many other professionals, as well as adults with positive experiences from raising children, consider fostering a normal extension of their interests and talents.
Work at Home
Many stay-at-home parents who bring a foster child into their home consider it a mission first and foremost, and may feel that fostering is their job. However, due to policy the foster parents must show evidence of other support income for the household. Foster parents may be employed as long as there is flexibility to meet the foster child’s needs.
Developmental Stage in Life
Adults often look for new meaning and purpose in their lives upon achieving certain goals or after their children have grown up. As they get older they often gain a new perspective about the future and what impact they can have on it. Foster care and mentoring can be a profound way to accomplish meaning in your own life as well as in the life of a young person.
